SEGA Forever 2018 Update

Over the past eight months we’ve been observing how SEGA fans have been playing the 18 SEGA Forever titles that have been released so far.

While we originally intended to focus largely on emulated titles, we have observed that our native ports are the most played games (Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD, Crazy Taxi, and Virtua Tennis Challenge).

Therefore, we’ve decided to make some changes to appeal even more to the audience that is most interested in this project. While we will continue working on emulated titles – with a surprise or two that you haven’t been expecting – our plan this year is to focus on porting titles natively.

As a result of these changes, the cadence of releases will reduce. However, the next SEGA Forever title will be rolling out soon!

The mobile team wants to thank fans from all around the world: in only eight months SEGA Forever titles have been downloaded more than 40 million times. This is only the beginning!

Could this be a teaser?

    Please release Shining Force 3!

  • Stephen Farrell says:

Shining Force 3, all 3 parts please
    Also, Dragon Force 1 & 2!
Oh, oh, oh… Shining the Holy Ark too!

    • Tails says:

I’d say all are good but people are getting sad because Sonic 3 and knuckles ain’t going to come to IOS and android.

Knowing Service games well they will add any games fans want.

I also want shining force 3

    • Tristan says:

Second Shining: The Holy Ark. That is one of my all-time favorite games and since the controls are simple it would definitely translate well to iPad/iPhone.

TO SEGA MOBILE DEVS: A simple port. Flicky.

  • randr01d says:

I agree with the above. Basically, Saturn ports of any kind would be awesome.

    • Tails says:

The Saturn itself needs a controller,

Sonic R had bad controls on PC.

I would be asking for those great games like, NIGHT into Dreams,Sonic Jam Mini games And EMENY ZERO Would be great

    • SRBias says:

Retro-bit are rereleasing Dreamcast and Saturn controllers. Including Bluetooth versions… Maybe just maybe this is why we are seeing them.

  • Thiago says:

Please Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle.

  • Thiago says:

Is it possible to launch some Bomberman?

  • Joe Dirte says:

    Ill settle for more RPGs.

Sega had some amazing classics on it.

  • Tails says:

    Sonic 3 and knuckles

  • Shadow1w2 says:

Hmm, bet you could still get the guys behind Sonic 1 and 2 ports to finish up Sonic 3 + Knuckles with some music replacements from the fan community.
    I can dream.

Hoping to see After Burner Climax, Jet Set Radio and even Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed (if that was at all possible) make a return somehow.
SASRT I bought out right on android, then it went micro transaction free to play taking my purchase away, then it got pulled all together. Was a pretty good port really minus the micro transaction bs. (I just wanted a portable version not a mini job)
After Burner Climax while it has no gamepad support it does work well on my modern smart phone. I bet Jet Set Radio would work well too now a days without much fuss.

Emulation wise I kinda expect things like manual art, box art, collected information about the game, various versions, online/local wifi multiplayer GGPO style, music player that plays in sleep mode. Little things to make the cost more worth it is all. All mostly games I already own anyway so I’d kinda need something I can’t get otherwise. For those that don’t the extras do add incentive since they won’t have to dig online to learn about the game.

Best of luck with the new focus.

Oh and get Sega Swirl and its sequels on android somehow, complete with the animated mascot and multiplayer please kay thanks….. I can dream….

  • Michael Ferrara says:

Going to again request the entire Shining Force series from Shining in the Darkness on to be ported, including the Shining Force 3 trio of games. Why were parts 2 and 3 never ported out of Japan in the first place?!

Give us the Shining Force series please.

  • Segadreamer says:

Alex kidd in miracle world and fantasy zone deserves to be on your list! We’re still waiting for some no 16 bits Sega classics too…
Of course I wont forget to say Save Shenmue!!

  • Alex Fox says:

Sonic 3 & Knuckles please – Christian Whitehead and Stealth already showed a working proof of concept more than 3 years ago! If there’s really some problem with the soundtrack because of obvious reasons, then just replace the tracks in question or the entire soundtrack if needed (fans surely will help creating a new one so now one will complain) and while at it, allow them to add in new components (more multiplayer stages etc) and do a Sonic 3 & Knuckles Remix. Judging by how well Sonic 2 was received, it would be a blast!
Also, Soleil/Crusader of Centy would be awesome and some 8 Bit Master System (and Game Gear) goodness.

  • Profile photo of Ray Ray says:

Please re-release all of the Panzer Dragoon games!

That is Panzer Dragoon, Zwei, Saga, and Orta.

  • Erik says:

I imagine that I speak for a lot of people when I request Phantasy Star 1 please.

  • Zeether says:

Please, PLEASE release Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon Zwei! And do them on PC too.

  • Michael says:

Are we sure that this has anything to do with the nature of the games and not that maybe, as brands, Sonic, Crazy Taxi, and Virtua Tennis are just bigger and better known than the Genesis titles selected for emulation? (They’ve been around on the mobile stores longer, too!)

  • Eloy Vargas says:

What Ever Happened To Puyo Puyo Quest on IOS & Android? 🙁 Please SEGA, Release Puyo Puyo Quest If You Have A Chance.

  • Profile photo of Ages101 Ages101 says:

I doubt this will ever happen, but I would love to play Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg.
